Whispers in the Night: Exploring the haunted Truckee River Murder House

The Truckee River House in Truckee, California is the subject of the Conversation Cabin Podcast's episode on the Donner Party tragedy. The episode begins with a brief overview of Truckee, California, describing it as an incorporated town in Nevada County with a population of 16,180. The town is known for its proximity to Lake Tahoe and the Truckee River, and it experiences a continental climate with dry summers and snowy winters.

The podcast then delves into the history of the Donner Party tragedy, which occurred during the westward expansion of the United States in the 19th century. In 1846, a group of around 90 pioneers, known as the Donner Party, set out from Illinois to make a new life in California. They were lured by the promise of prosperity and fertile farmland and decided to take a new route called the Hastings Cutoff, which was supposed to be a shortcut.

However, the route proved to be far more difficult than they expected, leading to delays and depletion of their supplies. By the time winter set in, the Donner Party was trapped in the Sierra Nevada mountains, far from their destination. They were unable to proceed or retreat due to heavy snowfall and limited supplies and shelter. As their food ran out and rescue seemed unlikely, some members of the party resorted to cannibalism to survive.

The Donner Party's ordeal lasted until February and March of 1847 when rescue parties from California, were finally able to reach them. Of the original group of around 90, only 48 survived. The Donner Party tragedy has since become a symbol of the dangerous and harsh conditions faced by pioneers during the westward expansion.

The podcast then transitions to discussing the Truckee River House, which is located in Truckee, California. The house is described as a small, one-room home that has collapsed over the years but still has a main entrance that attracts investigators. The history of the house is difficult to research due to its age, but there are two stories associated with it.

One story is that the house was the site of a brutal murder in the 1940s when a family of five was killed by a hitchhiker. The evidence from paranormal investigations suggests the presence of a child or young girl whose throat was cut. The podcast includes a clip from one of the Haunted Sides investigations at the Truckee River Murder House, where the spirit box says "hurt my throat" and the ovilus says "cut." The investigation also captures an apparition flying past the doorway and knocking down a camera.

In conclusion, the Conversation Cabin Podcast's episode on the Truckee River House sheds light on its haunting and mysterious nature. Farrah's exploration of the house and its legends aims to uncover the truth behind the chilling murder-suicide and the rumored presence of skinwalkers.
